Fishing Report – 5th October 2023
Beaches
Still a few good sized surf bream are being caught on the Long Reef to Dee Why beach section. Also reports of Tailor and some large salmon coming from the same area.
A few whiting are starting to show on the beaches as well.
Narrabeen Lake
The lake is currently being dredged. This has stirred up a lot of fish activity especially flathead and bream. Good sized bream are being taken at the road bridge area and Jamieson Park.
Our junior fishing competition now has more than 130 kids signed up and actively fishing the lake. So far some great catches including bream, luderick, long toms, mullet, and some great sized flathead. Entries (free) and details in store. Great prizes on offer. End this weekend.
Offshore
Some nice sized reds are being caught off Dee Why – Long Reef in close as well as off North Head. Plenty of burley is required and fresh green-eyed squid or stripy tuna strips are working well.
Large tailors are still hanging round Newport Reef and Barrenjoey Headland as well as the closer reefs including Trawleys and the Valiant reef on pilchards or strip baits.
Some large kingfish up to one metre are showing up on the 12-mile reef and Esmerelda. Use fresh squid and green-eyed calamari for best results.
Pittwater and Sydney Harbour
Some good catches of trevally, bream, tailor and pinkies to 37cm in the Bayview region of Pittwater this week. Plenty of burley is required to get them on the chew.
Kingfish are still present in the Harbour with fresh squid being the best bait.
Luderick are also in good numbers from harbour rock platforms and ferry wharfs.
