Beaches

With a bit more sunshine this week, more anglers have hit the beaches in search of a feed. The swell has been up so the protected ends of the beaches have been the main areas fished or the deeper inshore gutters on some of the larger open beaches.

There are some nice winter whiting around at the moment, not in huge numbers, but they are good sized fish. NBT regular Eddie has been catching them at Manly throughout the day. Eddie’s advice is to be mobile and walk the beach casting into each gutter until you locate the fish. Eddie has been using our pre-made whiting rigs and our king beach worms. Apart from the whiting, he is also encountering some salmon which give him a good workout on his light gear.

The larger swell has gouged out some nice deep gutters along the beaches and these are fishing well for bream, whiting, tailor and salmon. Best baits are beach worms, Hawkesbury prawns, and half pilchards. Fish the tide changes and dawn/dusk for best results.

Try Long Reef to Dee Why, Collaroy to South Narrabeen and Palm Beach – all are fishing well at the moment.

Rocks

The luderick and drummer are in good numbers off most of the rock ledges as are salmon and trevally. There are a few snapper around in close best fished light with fresh squid baits. Use plenty of berley to get them interested.

Try Warriewood, North Narrabeen and South Curl Curl.

As always – Safety first ! We stock life jackets, clip on rock spikes, and boots.

Narrabeen Lake

The weather has been better for the second week of school holidays and the kids have been out in force fishing around the lake. NBT regular Pon has been fishing around the Ocean St bridge most days and is getting some nice flathead and bream.

The Pittwater Rd bridge area is another popular place and there have been many great fish caught there by our enthusiastic young fishos. They have been doing well with bream and flathead using Hawkesbury prawns and half pilchards.

NBT staff member Mitch has been running some fishing classes around the lake this week and has had some good luck (or skill) capturing six decent flathead in one session

Try around Wimbledon Ave, Jamieson Park, and the bridge on the main road.

Best baits are Hawkesbury prawns, mullet fillets, and worms. Daiwa bait junkies are also working well. Pop into the shop and we’ll show you Mitch’s favourites.

Offshore

The yellowfin tuna have moved north up around Port Macquarie. There are also blue fin around the same area.

Locally, some good quality Snapper in the 2-5kg range have been taken in good numbers at Broken Bay Wide, Esmarelda, and Long Reef.

Pittwater

The trevally are still in good numbers in Pittwater and there are still mixed schools of Bonito, Salmon, Tailor and Kingfish busting up early mornings in the Morning Bay area.

There are still some Kingfish about at Clareville wreck, Long Nose Point and around the Palm Beach Channel markers using green eye squid or Hawkesbury squid.

Bream are still biting in the McCarr’s Creek area and have been caught on our quality Hawkesbury school prawns.

Rod and reel servicing

This is the time of year to get your fishing gear serviced. Reels need regular servicing to prevent corrosion and excessive wear and tear. Rods also need some TLC and we can replace broken runners and rod tips, or even fully restore an old classic rod.
