Narrabeen Bait and Tackle

Fishing Report – 21 February 2025

Beaches

Whiting are on most of the beaches but not in big numbers. Best approach is to be mobile with a shoulder bag and work the various gutters along the beach until you locate the fish. Beach worms are by far the best baits to use. A trace with some red plastic tubing and a small red bead will attract fish to the bait.

We have had several reports of jewfish captures on the beaches this week. Dee Why, Fisherman’s Beach, and Long Reef have all produced fish to 10kg. Fresh green eye squid accounted for all fish.

We have a good stock of quality preserved king worms. These fish very well on the beaches and catch everything from Whiting, Bream, Flathead, Jewfish, and Salmon.

Narrabeen Lake

NBT staff member Mitch managed a nice 7kg Jewfish from the lake during the week as well as small Bronze Whaler shark.

Regular junior angler Taneh caught a nice 44cm whiting near the Pittwater Rd bridge using Hawkesbury prawns.

Flathead are in good numbers around the Jamieson Park area and there are a few nice bream being caught as well in that area. The flathead are best targeted with a half-pilchard bait whereas the bream love the Hawkesbury prawns or soft plastics like the CrushCity Creeper.

Some good whiting and flathead have been caught down near the Ocean St bridge fishing the drop offs from the main channel. Beachworms and peeled Hawkesbury prawns are good all-round baits for this section of the lake

Offshore

The inshore reefs have yielded Jewfish, Teraglin, and small to medium snapper during the week.

Flathead were on the drift at Mona Vale and Palm Beach in the 40-50m mark. Pilchards and fresh mullet fillets are the recommended baits.

Pittwater

There is some good surface action in Pittwater this week with schools of Watson’s Leaping Bonito making their annual visit. They should hang around for a few weeks. Small metal lures and small minnow lures will get you amongst these speedsters.

Look for the bust ups and birds. If not evident, try trolling small minnows around Coasters Retreat and the Morning Bay area.

Salmon are also in reasonable numbers around West Head and up to Flint and Steel. There have also been several good jewfish capture around Flint and Steel with fish up to 10kg. Fresh green-eye squid accounted for all fish.

Kingfish are around the barges at the western side of Scotland Island. Try fresh squid or live baits for best results.
