Narrabeen Bait and Tackle
Fishing Report – 30 January 2025
Happy New Year to all of our customers and visitors to Narrabeen. Thank you for your patronage throughout 2024 and beyond. We look forward to being of service to you again in 2025. Pop in and see us for all your fishing needs.
Beaches
Collaroy, North Narrabeen, Palm Beach, Curl Curl, and Dee Why all have nice whiting in reasonable numbers. Our live Beach worms fished on our custom whiting rigs are producing some great fish.
There are some nice flathead on some of the beaches – look for channels leading into a hole – best fished 1 hour either side of the high or low tide.
Rocks
Warriewood, Dee Why Headland and Curl Curl all have been good for mixed bags of bream, salmon and the odd large kingfish. Plenty of berley will help bring the fish to you and a well-presented fresh squid bait will get you on the bite.
Squid in reasonable numbers have been caught off the rock platforms. We have a great range of Yamashita squid jigs if you want to try and target them.
Don’t forget your safety gear – boots and lifejackets (PFD) are compulsory.
Narrabeen Lake
The lake is fishing very well for bream and flathead. Try around the Woolies carpark, near the kayak club and Wimbledon Ave using Hawkesbury prawns and half pilchards.
One of our customers bagged a 44cm whiting near the caravan park using our Hawkesbury prawns. She was the envy of the caravan park !
Several reports this week of quality jewfish being caught in the lake. Best results are using our Hawkesbury squid or green eyed squid. They are also very partial to live herring fished around the road bridge. There are quality fish up in the back part of the lake in and around the deeper holes. Peak times to target the jews are early morning or late afternoon-dusk.
Offshore
The FADS were also producing some good-sized dolphin fish.
Wider reefs had good kings with Green-eyed squid being the ultimate bait.
Flathead were on the drift at Mona Vale and Palm Beach in the 40-50m mark. Pilchards and fresh mullet fillets are the recommended baits.
Pittwater and Sydney Harbour
It’s been fairly quiet in Pittwater mainly due to the fine weed that has come in recently. The sand flats at Bayview have been fishing well for whiting and flathead with live beach worms accounting for the better fish.
Morning Bay has some bust ups early in the morning with salmon and tailor in the schools.
There are mixed schools of salmon, and bonito at West Head and towards Flint and Steel beach.
The harbour has been fishing well for frigate mackerel, bonito, tailor and salmon. Large schools are around Balmoral and wash-away beach.
Schools of Bonito are also around the entrance of the harbour. Trolling small minnow lures is a good way of locating them. One located, small metal lures cast upwind and to the side of the bust ups will produce fish.
