Junior Fishing Competition
Our junior fishing competition runs throughout the school holidays. It is open to all school-aged children and is free to enter.
Pop into the shop for details and registration. We have some great prizes up for grabs thanks to our major sponsors Daiwa, Rapala and Shimano.
Beaches
Some good-sized whiting and bream have been caught at South Narrabeen to Collaroy using fresh worms and Hawkesbury prawns.
Bungan Beach and Palm Beach have also produced whiting during the week on beach worms.
There were also some nice jewfish taken at Curl Curl with green eyed squid being the best bait. Those fishing for jewfish have reported plenty of bronze whaler and small bull sharks as well.
We have a good stock of quality preserved king worms. These fish very well on the beaches and catch everything from Whiting, Bream, Flathead, Jewfish, and Salmon.
Narrabeen Lake
There are plenty of quality bream in the Jamieson Park area around the boat ramp. Hawkesbury prawns are the best bait.
Flathead around 60-70cm in length are in good numbers around the road bridge on Pittwater Road and around Berry Reserve and the kayak club. Half pilchards and Hawkesbury prawns are the best bait however a lot of the better fish have been caught on soft plastics. Come into the shop and we will show you which ones are catching the most fish.
Offshore
The inshore reefs have been fishing well for jewfish and snapper. Try Long Reef and Newport Reef for the snapper. Some big kings have been taken in close at Newport Reek using fresh green eyed squid.
There are plenty of bonito schools offshore with Watsons leaping bonito making another appearance. Cast small 10-20g metals into the schools on light gear and enjoy the sound of screaming drags.
Flathead were on the drift at Mona Vale and Palm Beach in the 40-50m mark. Pilchards and fresh mullet fillets are the recommended baits.
Rocks
A surprise catch for one lucky angler at Curl Curl landing a metre plus GT (see main pic).
At the time of writing huge seas are battering to coast so no rock fishing in the next few days.
The rocks usually fish well after the big seas with fish moving in close to searching for a feed. Best baits are fresh squid, pilchards and large peeled Hawkesbury prawns.
There are also a few drummer starting to show up in the washes.
The usual suspect of kingfish, trevally, bonito and snapper are good options on most of the ledges. Stay safe and make sure you have all of the right protective gear and a plan of how you can keep yourself safe, i.e if me or a mate go into the water , where and how are we going safely get out.
Pittwater
Kingfish and trevally are around the barges at the western side of Scotland Island. Try fresh squid or live baits for best results.
One of our regular anglers Bob watched another angler do battle with a large fish at the wreck at Avalon. After an epic battle, the fish was lost boatside just as it was about to be netted. It was a cobia estimated to be around the 130cm mark taken on a squid bait intended for a kingy.
